$30 Million Project Transforms Former Coal Mine into Major Retail Location in Bridgeport

BRIDGEPORT, WV. The Charles Pointe development in Bridgeport, WV began as a vision. Central to that vision is an unwavering commitment to high standards and an abiding respect for the history, traditions and basic values of the Mountain State. Charles Pointe is a place for new jobs. A place where children will get to know each other, and families will put down roots for generations to come. A place where yesterday and today meet the future.

Genesis Partners’ vision is to bring the best technology, research and planning to create Charles Pointe, a sustainable and intelligent community for today’s global and digital age. Charles Pointe is an award winning $1.5 billion state-of-the-art mixed-use community spanning over 1,700 acres along the I-79 high tech corridor where commercial, residential and recreational opportunities are combined together in one community.

The most recent project in the development in a massive earth moving project that created a retail center known as Charles Pointe Crossing. The project was designed and managed by the team at Genesis Partners - led by Rob Stuart, Director of Planning & Engineering. The project was engineered by CEC Consultants and completed by Wolfe Excavating.

The Charles Pointe Crossing project involved the excavation of 4 million cubic yards of earth and the reclamation of a former coal mine to create a 67-acre site for retail and hospitality opportunities into Charles Pointe accessed from Interstate 279. It was one of the state's largest earth moving projects in 2021. The new Charles Pointe Crossing location features all underground utilities and meets or exceeds all federal, state and local environmental standards.

The time lapse video was taken each day from the campus of WVU United Hospital Center. The project began in November 2020. It only took 15-months to complete at a cost of nearly $30 million. The 90- second video can be found at this link: HERE

The spectacular entrance to Charles Pointe Crossing from Interstate 279 features a 250-foot highwall that helps preserve the mining heritage of Harrison County and North Central West Virginia. Various coal seams (Including Redstone and Pittsburgh) can be seen in the highwall.

Charles Pointe Crossing will be anchored by a Menard's super store with more than 203,000 square foot of retail space. Menard's is one of the nation's largest home improvement retailers. For more information on Menard’s, visit their website at https://www.menards.com/main/home.html.
