The Bridgeport Visitors Center at Charles Pointe is scheduled to open its doors late this spring. The center will house a conference center and the Greater Bridgeport Convention and Visitors Bureau.
There were several changes in plans, pushing back the opening date. The Bridgeport CVB is working with the Bridgeport Farmers Market to incorporate activities of the market.
The price tag on the center is $3.3 million, and it sits on about 2.061 acres on Conference Center Way.
Bridgeport City Attorney Dean Ramsey said the Building Commission would be responsible for the $4.7 million construction loan.
“If they default, the city can pick it up,” Ramsey said.
Scott Duarte, managing director of the Bridgeport Conference Center and Charles Pointe Hospitality, said the Visitors Center would be a prominent building.
Duarte said the Visitors Center will be great for Charles Pointe and a lot of traffic comes off the interstate going straight into the complex.
Duarte said the CVB would continue efforts to serve the public with intentions to represent Bridgeport at the new center.
